Under the surface of label machines, tik-tok artists, and ever-changing music lies an artist that brings the music industry a silver lining with her success. That artist happens to be Billie Eilish. For the last couple of years, she has captivated us with vulnerable music, and she always catches our eyes with her unconventional fashion style. Billie is a pop phenom, but under the millions of streams and superstardom lies a woman that delivers a feeling of genuity and personability that we rarely have seen from superstars that have come before her. This is what makes her larger than life.
After showcasing her blonde hair and change of style within the press, Billie announced the release of her new single ‘Your Power’ that will be off of her forthcoming album Happier Than Ever which is set to release on July 30th. The single is expressive in many ways and it calls out in particular, older men that abuse their power with younger women.
In the self-directed video that accompanies the single, we see Billie sing as a snake slithers around her neck. Whether the single is about her ex-boyfriend or about the industry in itself, the visual paints a picture of a girl that isn’t free due to the grasp of those around her. Although she is free in her environment, she can’t escape the grasp of the snake which is used in place to describe this volatile relationship she feels is hindering her ability to be free. With this being the first glimpse at the upcoming album, I can say that Billie has our full attention.
