With his forthcoming album Folarin II on the way, global hip-hop artist, Wale, teams up with J. Cole to release their new single “Poke It Out”. The single is their first collaboration in over 3 years, and it is everything that we expected and more from the veteran rappers.
The single was produced by Cool & Dre, and it uses the electronic bass sample Q-Tip features on his 1999 single “Vivrant Thing”. Wale holds it down on the first verse and choruses while J. Cole comes through with his signature bars that give an introspective look into the overall narrative conveyed in the lyrics.
In the visual for the single, the veterans are seen with an array of beautiful women. Wale starts the video driving in a top down Jeep with 3 girls dancing as they cruise through the streets. The video then transitions to J. Cole rapping in a pink room before transitioning to multiple shots of the women dancing, taking showers, and camping. Overall, the visual is just as fun as the song, and we are really excited for his upcoming project.
Lyrics That Stick:
“I just want to see if you going lie or you gonna love me
I was getting boards way before I got the money, honey
Since I been a star they don’t love me”
