In an age full of viral stars and one-hit wonders, acclaimed singer/songwriter, Goody Grace, has been an artist that has continued to bless listeners with introspective songs that make us fall in love with music all over again. His ability to blend dark-pop with alternative undertones makes him a rockstar in his own right, and we love him because he always stays true to his roots. After releasing his incredible new project Nostalgia Kills, we made sure to take our time in listening to his art thoroughly. Although the project is exceptional, the song that stuck out to us the most was “Gear”. “Gear” is everything you want in an alt-pop record, and the video that accompanies the single is just as captivating.
The visual is shot in black & white and it starts with a funeral that see people weeping over the recently deceased. After we are introduced to those attending the funeral, the visual transitions to Goody singing before showing him awakening from the grave at the funeral. Although Goody is no Lazarus, it was amazing seeing the narrative of the visual unfold, and this has to be one of our favorite visuals of the year. With that being said, check the visual out above.
Lyrics That Stick:
“Love how you said I should pop them pills
Running a hundred dollar bills
She stay chasing all the thrills
But she don't give a damn 'bout me at all”
