Ruby Waters Shows Her Star Power On Her Latest Single “Heather”

If someone asked me to show them an artist that blends the highs of Amy Winehouse along with the rawness of artists like Billie Eilish or Suki Waterhouse, then I would have to direct them to rising singer-songwriter Ruby Waters. Hailing from the small town of Shelburne, Ontario, Ruby Waters' journey is much like her music - eclectic, always evolving, and unfeigned. An Indigenous person born to two artists, music has always been a familiar presence. Now, she debuts on our pages with her latest single “Heather”, and it is one of the best songs I have heard as of late.

"Heather" is raw and vibrant and a perfect showcase for Ruby Water's vocal prowess. Over a simple strummed acoustic, her raspy vocals bend and crack with a yearning that would get glossed over with other artists at the helm. Sonically, the record feels as if it was made for her vocals. The mixture of engaging production and her exceptional vocals prove to be a winning formula. Her rawness needs to be highlighted as well because her lyricism will evoke emotions you never thought you had. Ruby is everything you want out of an emerging artist. She is present in her records and you feel connected as she pours her heart out. If I could relate her sound to anything, it would be that euphoric feeling right after the high kicks in. That feeling where you don’t want it to end.
