When it comes to emerging talent, Brayton Matthews, professionally known as 44phantom, has been on a hot streak due to his ability to craft singles that blend modern pop and rock with deep storytelling. In his latest cut ‘gray!’, the rising Seattle-based talent discusses the gray area of losing his friends due to his mistakes and how he has to deal with the harsh reality of people being there due to his status.
Although the song doesn’t use eerie production, the blend between the subtle guitar-driven beat and his smooth melodies helps create an emotional song that you could listen to on a sunny or rainy day. 44phantom has been releasing a lot of good records, but ‘gray!’ is the most complete performance I have seen from him.
