With his music being described as “a rainy day in the sunshine state”, Oxford-born singer/songwriter, Artemas, has been delivering music that brings an innovative feel to pop. After coining himself the “wannabe popstar", he has continued to deliver 90s inspired anthems that mesh bittersweet lyrics and relatable hooks. His ability to draw inspiration from decades before and add a modern twist has made him separate from the rest of the pack in what seems like an oversaturated industry. With his new song titled ‘Misunderstood’, Artemas brings all the feels for an emotional track that is relatable to anyone that has ever felt unheard or misunderstood.
‘Misunderstood’ starts with a simple guitar riff followed by warm vocals and the sound of a storm echoing in the background. This really sets the tone from the get-go in this empowering song, and it allows the rising star the ability to create an atmosphere within the record. As the song progresses, Artemas explores the ins and outs of a relationship gone astray due to his significant other not wanting to take the time to truly understand who he is. That person continues to judge him based on surface-level things and not on who he truly is as a person. However, although he doesn’t want to please that person anymore, he is conflicted because he still thinks they are beautiful. All in all, the song is a story about heartbreak, and it’s about how miscommunication and not truly listening to someone can be detrimental to a relationship.
Lyrics That Stick:
“I'm trying not to look upset
But you look so gorgeous in that dress
And there's no way I'ma make it out
My commiserations”
