Vibrant, colorful, and captivating are all words that describe beautiful sounds of emerging producer Watermelon Boy. Hailing from Australia, Watermelon Boy has continued to impress listers with his daring sound. Combining the sounds of the global south with his Australian electronic pedigree, he infuses the sophisticated rhythms of Latin America, Africa & The Pacific with the might of Australian electronica. He is raw, and I put him in the same conversations with the likes of Flume, What So Not, & Alison Wonderland. With a sound that features complex rhythms with elements of afrobeats, dancehall, & reggaeton, Watermelon Boy’s vibrant sound can’t be put into a box. Now, he debuts on our pages with his latest album, “The Wow Signal”.

“The Wow Signal” is a transformative album that showcases Watermelon Boy’s innate ability to evoke raw emotions out of his listeners. You can tell he put his blood, sweat, & tears into the project, and his production skills are on full display. Watermelon Boy’s second album is a testament to his growth, and he immerses himself within different cultures to produce a worldly sound that is for everyone. From the beat textures to the melodies, you can hear the different cultures and elements that were poured into this album. “The Wow Signal” is a melting pot of lush melodies, and it brings cultures, countries, and continents together.

With features from musicians from Ghana, Fiji, Chile, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, & Jamaica, “The Wow Signal” is the most forward leaning album I have heard this year. The songs are bright, features were exceptional, and each feature brought something new to the overall sound. I would consider their performance’s to be a chef’s kiss. Overall, “The Wow Signal” is everything you want in an album and more. It takes listeners on a sonic journey that they won’t want to end. With that being said, stream the album below and vibe out!
