Have you ever listened to a rapper/artist that caught your attention on the first listen? If so, what was it that made them stand out. Was it their production or song structure? Or was it their ability to create a sound that you felt relatable? For me, I’m always searching for daring bands that make music for the love of their craft. I yearn to escape my everyday life and immerse myself in the art of someone that I have no connection with. This week, I was impressed when I came across emerging rapper-artist Thought Provokah.

Hailing from New York, Thought Provokah has taken the industry by storm with a sound that pays homage to the greats that have come before him. Drawing influence from the soul, blues, jazz, and funk played by his father, he has crafted a sound that brings back the nostalgia from groups such as the Traditionalists (architects of hip-hop). Thought Provokah’s songs are introspective, and his lyricism is exceptional. His ability to evoke raw emotions out of his listeners with a blend of sharp wit and deep insight makes him stand out amongst his peers. He questions social norms, and his music offers a refreshing taste to modern hip-hop. Now, he enters our pages with his latest album, “We’ll Be Right Back After These Messages”.

“We’ll Be Right Back After These Messages” is a transformative concept album that showcases Thought Provokah’s innate ability to discuss insightful and socially conscious issues that are relatable to all. His lyrics are raw, captivating, and memorable. Over the 15-tracks, the emerging rapper bears it all and discusses going back in time to appear on Arsenio Hall show. This topic mixed with the social issues creates a project that hits on multiple topics while staying true to the main narrative.

My favorite records from the album were “Show Goes On”, “Mo Betta Blues”, & “Love I Can Feel”. These records have become the soundtrack of my life, and I love them due to the vocal cadences and sonics. Overall, “We’ll Be Right Back After These Messages” is a testament to the growth and talent of Thought Provokah. I consider it to be his magnum opus, and I can’t wait to see him shine. For now, stream his album below!
