Hailing from NYC, indie-rock duo, Twilight Muse, have been developing a cult-like following due to their innate ability to craft infectious records. The duo is known for their well-crafted duets and introspective lyricism that evokes raw emotions. Created by Meg Pollaro & Andrew Shapiro, the rock duo’s origins go back to 2019. At the time both Meg & Andrew had met at an open jam session after they both had put their personal pursuits of music on hold. Some would say it was perfect timing, because it led to what we hear today.
Pollaro & Shapiro are not new to the music industry. With decades of experience, their skills and talents were there. Becoming a duo allowed them to find that love and central focus to chase the dream again. Their first project, Ultrasound, a funk cover band, began to perform actively around New York City. A highlight was a benefit concert at Brooklyn Bowl, which found them performing Aerosmith and Run-DMC’s “Walk This Way,” with Meg laying into the Steven Tyler part alongside legendary Run-DMC member Darryl McDaniels. That experience sparked Meg and Andrew’s desire to write songs together. Now, they debut on our pages as with their new album ‘A Moment Out of Time’ under their new name Twilight Muse.
For starters, the album is one of the most cohesive and electric albums I have heard all year. The duo’s report reminds me of Tom Petty and Stevie nicks. They way the play off each other with lush melodies and comforting harmonies is otherworldly. Twilight Muse write alluring duets with diverse influences ranging from Americana to New Wave to modern R&B. With their defined storytelling and ability to stay in the pocket, their soundscape is so captivating as a listener. The duo’s originals include sensual, slow-burn ballads, frisky rockers, and contemplative, mid-tempo tunes. As far as songs go, “Forever”, “Oh Mama”, “Electrify Me”, “Are You In?” are our favorites.
“Forever” is the song I think makes the album. Sonically, it is one of my favorites, and I love the buildup. Meg’s vocals are exceptional and Andrew’s background vocals give hers the warmth needed to carry the song. I love the hook on this one as well. “Oh Mama” is a relatable record about unconditional love. It has this 80s/90’s feel that is so nostalgic. Now, “Are You In?” is that upbeat record that pulls the whole project together. Andrew’s raspy vocals are subtle but you will yearn for them. This is the most complete track on the album for me. From start to finish I was In a trance.
“Electrify Me is a tune that showcases another side of Twilight Muse,” comments singer/songwriter Meg Pollaro on the band’s lead single, premiered this week by Relix Magazine. “It's our more New Wave, guitar-heavy rocker drawing inspiration from everyone from The Cars to the Allman Brothers to the Clash. It includes themes of romance and lust as well as the desire to stop the passage of time and become someone else, living an ‘electric dream.”
Overall, this is one of my favorite projects so stream below.
