When it comes to music discovery, there is no better feeling than finding an artist that pushes the industry forward. Although it is rare to find artists with an innovative flair, there are still a handful within the industry that shine with how genuine they are. This week, I came across rising singer-rapper, Oliver McCarty, and he has us in awe with his musical talent.

Oliver is an artist that has recently began to shine due to his innate ability to craft sensible records that will make you feel seen as a listener. His ability to connect is what makes him a valuable artist. Now, he debuts on our pages with his latest EP, “Shades of Life”.

“Shades of Life” is a collection of thought out ideas laced with lush melodies and captivating verses. Each song paints a picture of the various human experiences we go through. Although introspective in nature, the EP takes you on a journey through the complexities of life. As a whole, the EP touches on personal growth, the interplay between light and shade, & Oliver shines with his raw lyricism.

For me, the pacing of the album is exceptional, and I loved how cohesive it was. The EP starts with his song “Scripture”. “Scripture” is laced with thought provoking lyrics, ethereal melodies, and it will have you on a journey of self-discovery as a listener. In addition, I loved the cadence selection and his hook was in the pocket. This was the perfect song to set the tone for the EP. Overall, this is one of my favorite records.

Another record I enjoyed was “Hold Me”. I really liked his vocal delivery, witty wordplay, and the instrumentation was groovy. Sonically, this is one of the best songs on the EP. In addition, the hook is fire.

The final track on the EP is “Shadows Within”. This beautiful composition serves as the perfect conclusion, leaving listeners in a state of reflection and wonder. Oliver McCarty’s skillful storytelling and soul-stirring melodies are sure to leave a lasting impression on all who embark on this musical odyssey.

Overall, this is one of my favorite projects of the year. Oliver has immense talent, and I can’t wait to see him continue to grow as an artist. With that being said, stream his new EP below.
