When it comes to crafting sensible records, emerging indie-artist, Timothy Michael Immen, is second to none. Blessed with the ability to sing, the rising artist has established a sound than can be described as indie electronica. His sound is raw, expressive, and his songwriting details the trials & tribulations of everyday life. Because of this, I have found myself connecting with most of his catalogue. As a listener, we yearn to find connections with artists that we feel are experiencing or have experienced what we have. For me, Timothy has been just that. He is a vessel of hope and wonder. Now, he debuts on our pages with his latest album “In The House Of My Family And Friends”.
“In The House Of My Family And Friends” is unlike many albums that are being released. For one, Timothy released it exclusively on YouTube so listeners can listen for free. In addition, the project has one of the most innovative soundscapes sonically. From start to finish, each song builds on the previous. For me, the album is a testament to Immen’s vulnerability, generosity, and passion as an artist. The music industry is as cutthroat as any other industry and Immen defies all the norms. He creates his own lane and focuses on the art and the listener’s experience. These qualities and notions make the album so much more worth the listen.
The album is personal, raw, and sincere. In my opinion, it goes against the modern day commercialized and overly produced songs that we hear today. Although we love a “perfect” sounding song, sometimes records that feel overly worked (mainstream) lack the emotion that is intended. However, Immen’s project does miss in this department. His imperfections make this album standout. For me, some of the off-pitch notes and singing errors make his tone and overall song sound more human and emotional. Immen properly challenges the industry’s standard and crafts and unconventional project that is unforgettable. Immen serves as a shoulder to cry on, and he gives the lost a place they can call home. “In The House Of My Family And Friends” feels like a communion or coming together for those that have struggled but yearn to feel the togetherness of the world. This album has gotten me through the toughest week of my life, and I challenge you all to listen to the words of one of my favorite rising artists!
