Dizzy Dreamer Discusses Mental Health & Self-Empowerment On His Debut EP, “Voidboy”

Like everything in life, music continues to evolve. This is something that has been going on since music became a thing. Over my life, I have seen multiple eras. I got to experience the hip-hop & grunge-rock of the 90s. I got to soak up the sun with the pop & contemporary hits of the 2000s. The 2010s brought the allure and the hype of hip-hop. Now, the industry is saturated to the point where I just want an artist I can connect with. With thousands of songs released daily, it becomes harder & harder to find artists/collectives that truly stand out. Nowadays, it feels as if the industry values trends and virality over music. Although this might be true, there are still artists/producers that are pushing their sound forward to captivate listeners as we head into this new landscape. One artist I know is bringing heat is Emo/electronic rock project Dizzy Dreamer.

Hailing from Lousiville, KY, Dizzy Dreamer (Tyler Pritchett) has created an innovative sound that advocates for mental health. His songs are raw, relatable, and they are laced with artistic expression. To me, Dizzy Dreamer is the culmination of ideas and self-expression that lies within the burgeoning artist.

Although I am new to his sound, his new EP “VoidBoy” is one of the best projects of the year. The five-track EP is laced with captivating elements that include ear catching synths, vocoded vocals, and spacious sonics that allow his songs to breathe. All in all, his soundscape takes listeners on an atmospheric journey that allows them to see the innerworkings of one of the industry’s best creatives. When it comes to my favorite artists, I have always been drawn to singers that were able to take you somewhere with their sound. Because of that, I was captivated by artists such as Kid Cudi, James Blake, and Tame Impala. Like the artists I mentioned above, Dizzy Dreamer falls into this same category of artist. His sound is dynamic and expansive. In addition to his exceptional sonics, his songwriting evokes raw emotions!

My favorite records from the project were “Loathe On” & “Your Mistake”. “Loathe On” is a synth-driven record that builds in stages. The sonic progression allows the song to have a story-styled approach where you are introduced to more elements as the song continues. Sitting at just over 5-minutes, the record is one of the most heartfelt songs on the album. Dizzy Dreamer’s piercing vocals matched with his introspective lyricism allow his emotions to carry over the song’s duration. “Your Mistake” takes a deeper dive into his psyche. Overwhelmed with overflowing emotions, Dizzy’s vocoded vocals draw listeners into a song that’s about self-blame and depression. For me, the song makes you feel slightly uncomfortable to where it feels like you are drowning. Artistically, this feeling of drowning or discomfort helps the song reach its full meaning. When it comes to self-examination, it’s always hard to look inward and see where we have gone wrong. However, the rising star does a great job in depicting these thoughts and feelings. Overall, this EP is one of my favorite projects of the year so stream it below!
