Unless you live under a rock, you should already know rising Samoan rapper THT Cyrus. The California-native and currently Las Vegas-based artist has continued to captivate listeners with his introspective brand of Hip-Hop. For those that are new to the rapper, Cyrus is the true meaning of success. After being born to immigrant parents and finding a home in the states, he saw certain hardships that have shaped him into the artist he is today. You can tell that his music is highly influenced by his personal life. However, he takes those lessons and uses his drive to create songs that almost act as his own therapy for consumption. He’s relatable, and I can tell that he is committed to be the best. Now, he debuts on our pages with his latest EP “Mama’s Boy”. The EP was written and dedicated to his mother who recently passed away.
Overall, it is one of the most cohesive projects I have heard all year. Although there are some tear-jerking moments, the 4-song EP is groundbreaking. Listening to the pain in his lyrics evoke raw emotions that I never knew were there. In each song you uncover something new as he peels back his layers. As listeners, we barely get to hear transparent artists anymore. Everyone wants to hide behind their glitz, glam, and bravado. However, we all deserve to feel heard, and THT Cyrus proves that this music is what we need. My favorite songs from the project “Heal” & “From the Top (feat. R Shade)”. “From the Top” is one of the catchiest songs on the album. The production is dynamic, and it features a ear-worm hook that will be stuck in your head. In addition, the vocal delivery, cadence selection, and lyrics are exceptional. Both artist shine on this record and the product is phenomenal. “Heal” is also one of my favorites. With it being the final track, it is a reflective single about forgiveness and allowing yourself to grow. Laced with a smooth vocal sample, calculated lyrics, and cutting flows, THT Cyrus shows his versatility as an artist. THT Cyrus delivered a project that will be on repeat for a while. He is just scratching the surface so catch in before it’s too late.
Favorite Lyrics: “From the Top (feat. R Shade)”
“Always be a Cali baby,
30 years since I got here,
Had its ups and downs
It goes around but doesn’t stop here”
