Los Angeles-based DJ/Producer, DREE, is someone you need in your rotation. With a career that has seen him work with the likes of Kwame Adu, ZAYALLCAPS, & Ocho Worldwide, DREE has continued to refine his sound. He is truly innovative, and he continues to outdo himself.  Now, the emerging DJ & producer debuts on our pages with his latest offering “Intro – EP”. The EP is his debut project, and it follows his recent single “7% (feat. Kwame Adu)”. Overall, the EP is a sonic masterpiece full of engaging sounds and a soundscape that will have you captivated on the first listen.

As a listener, the project is a testament of growth. This is DREE’s first attempt at stepping into the singer/songwriter space. Although there may have been some influence from his collaborators, this only shows how committed DREE is to evolve his craft. It can be scary wanting to change specific aspects of your creation process as an artist, but this does not stop DREE. He wants to push the sound of tomorrow. The EP is entirely produced, mixed, and mastered by DREE, and it consists of 6 tracks with a 13-minute runtime. My favorite songs have to be “Vitamin C” & “You Don’t Give A”. “You Don’t Give A” is the perfect intro track. Sonically, it is laced with lush melodies, ear-catching drums, and a groove that’ll make you want to dance all night. It’s the perfect song for any club or lounge. In addition, the hook is infectious. “Vitamin C” is my favorite out of the entire project. It has elements of dancehall, pop, and electronic synth driven music all in one. It is his most cohesive song on the project, and his vocal performance is exceptional. DREE is very versatile, and he shows that he has a high ceiling with this project. DREE went on to say, “I find it difficult to pinpoint a specific genre, but consider some of my influences for the project to come from a mixture of producers such as FlyLo, Monte Booker, Kaytranada, and The Neptunes as well as artists such as Smino, Planet Giza, Jordan Ward, and cheRomani+”. When you look at the EP’s soundscape, you can definitely see elements of all his influences within his project. Overall, this is one of the most innovative projects of the year.
