In today’s music industry, it is very rare that I come across an artist that stands the test of time. Although I can blame it oversaturation, I feel as if artists aren’t connecting to the listeners like they used to. Growing up, hearing a new song from your favorite artist was euphoric and it served as a timestamp to one of the best moments of your life. When it came to the music, the songs and albums were pure and there were no shortcuts taken. From the sonics to the vocals, music was alive and well. Though I sometimes get lost in the blandness and plastic sound of today’s industry, there are a few artists that are still releasing groundbreaking music. I recently came across an exceptional artist that goes by the name Spoken Thought.

Spoken Thought is a Colorado-based producer & musician that has been captivating audiences with his exceptional sound. Drawing influence from Hip-Hop, r&b/soul, & contemporary pop, Spoken Thought has a sound that can be described as versatile or universal. Now, he enters our pages with his 20-track album called “Soulful Serenity”.

“Soulful Serenity” is a transformative album carried by rich sounds and a dynamic feel that will keep you engaged from start to finish. I loved the expansive sounds, song structure, and I loved how he meshed different influences into a captivating sound. For me, I’m not one that’s usually open for instrumental albums but this project is different. At it’s core, you can feel the attention to detail and heart that was put into this project.

My favorite songs were “Summer” & “American Gangsta”. “Summer” is melodic record that is laced with warm guitar tones, lo-fi percussion, and I loved how it progressed from start to finish. The subtle vocal samples, and the guitar tones made this a hit. This record is perfect for sitting on a beach at sunset. “American Gangsta” is a nod to Jay-Z. I loved the piano introduction and the horns made transition into the percussion hit like crack. Overall, I absolutely loved this album. It was everything & more. With that being said, stream the album below and vibe out!
