When it comes to music discovery, I find myself yearning for artists that push the boundaries and create for the love of the craft. I search for artists that I consider to be innovative, captivating, & versatile. This week, I came across my new guilty pleasure Code Unknown.

Code Unknown is a raw artist that has built a fanbase off of an expansive sound that evokes raw emotions out of his listeners. Each of his records is carried by emotion, exceptional sonics, and vocals that will have you hooked. For me, he is one of the most polarizing artists out right now. Although I’m still new to him, he debuts on our pages with his latest album, “Make It Different”.

“Make It Different” is Code Unknown’s magnum opus. Sitting at 7 well-crafted tracks, the project takes listeners on a sonic journey that they won’t want to end. Sonically, the records pull from different influences & genres that include grunge, rock, alternative, and it has pop undertones. My favorite songs were “Poor Abigail” & “Good To Say”. “Poor Abigail” has a nostalgic touch that reminds me of the late 90s grunge movement. There is an angsty feel to the record that is comforting. Sonically, the guitar riffs and warm percussion helped sell the song. Although I wish the vocals were a bit clearer, the muddy feel of the vocals is what helped create the overall feel of the album. With that said, I wouldn’t change a thing. “Good To Say” felt like mid-summer dream. I loved the main chords and the lyrics were personable. Overall, this album radiates energy and a lust for freedom. Code Unknown is a star, and I can’t wait to hear more from him. Stream his album below!
