Captivating, personable, and raw are all words that describe emerging rapper/artist Speegle. Hailing from Alabama, Speegle is an artist that defies genre norms, and he crafts a sound that evokes raw emotions out of his listeners. If I could take the essence of Mac Miller, the lyricism of J. Cole, and the catchiness of Drake, you would think of the burgeoning star. His songwriting prowess matched with his keen ear for production makes him a force to be reckoned with. Now, he enters our pages with his latest album, “Chalk”.

“Chalk” is a 10-track masterpiece that features some of the most refreshing songs of 2024. For me, this was Speegle’s magnum opus. His vocal delivery and overall lyricism were exceptional. I loved how he let the records breathe, and his ability to command the beat on every song shows maturity. It felt like each beat was made for his voice. The cohesiveness from start to finish made me really respect his artistry. In addition, the features were otherworldly.

My favorite records from the project were “Swing Set” & “Still the Kid”. Sonically, “Swing Set” was a melodic masterpiece full of lush melodies, engaging vocals, and the feature from K8dv was a chef’s kiss. The chemistry between both vocalists could be heard from start to finish. The lead single, “Still the Kid” was my favorite. The single was produced by Grammy winner Nate Fox who produces for Chance the Rapper. Overall, this entire project was a nod to staying youthful. It’s about fighting to keep our inner kid inside even when we grow older. With that being said, stream the album below!
