Lady OFLO Shares Her Mesmerizing Album, “Showtime!”

Over the last few years, music has felt like it is in a weird place. I can’t put my finger on it, but I will say that a lot of artists and songs lack emotion. There is so much music coming out, but we seem to be exposed to the gimmicks and music that lacks substance. Although I love my party songs, I have been searching for artists that are making music from the heart. I want substance, concepts, and themes within the music I listen to. Each week, I shuffle through thousands of song and projects, but I always seem to find one diamond in the rough. This week I came across Lady OFLO.
With over a decade of theatre and vocal training, Olivia Florentino (aka Lady OFLO) has captivated the music industry with a sound that blends elements of Bay Area rap, Musical Theater, R&B, Dancehall, Pop, and Folk. She is raw, daring, and her versatility allows her to craft a unique brand of music that I consider to be timeless. In a time where a lot of music sounds the same, Lady OFLO is carving her own lane and excelling at it. Now, she enters our pages with her latest album “Showtime!”.
“Showtime!” is a genre-defying album that was influenced by music that Lady OFLO grew up on. The music is vibrant, and the songwriting is exceptional. Her ability to pour her heart and soul into her records while also creating an entertaining body of work should be studied. Lady OFLO doesn’t miss with this album. Personally, I believe this album is a testament of her growth as an artist and songwriter.
From a theme standpoint, “Showtime!” is an album about dedication and perseverance even when times are hard. Lady OFLO want us to understand that with dedication hard work, faith, and drive that we can manifest dreams to reality. As someone who is a dreamer, this album speaks to my heart and soul. This album serves as a self-reflection, and it pushes me to want more out of life. Through the depth and range of emotion shown, as well as the honesty of her lyrical content “Showtime!” presents a new echelon of ability and achievement for Lady OFLO. In the same way that she poured her heart and soul into caring for her father in his final months of life, she gave the creation of “Showtime!” her absolute all, and it is clear in listening through the album that it was produced with love, care and undying devotion to her craft.
My favorite songs from the album were “Candy Girl”, “On My Mind”, & “Baddest Bitch Alive”. Overall, this was one of the best albums I have heard all year. With that being said, stream the album below and vibe out!
