As listeners, we often tend to listen to music that is “easy” to digest. We love songs that glorify partying, living carefree, and songs that discuss bringing each other down. Why is that? I believe it’s because we all feel the weight of the world, and we try to escape through the lines and songs of those that make it seem like everything is “all good”. However, life isn’t all good. There are real issues we face on a daily basis, and we are seeing people of different races, religions, and political views tear each other down. Now, more than ever, we need conscious artists that are going to discuss these topics. Let’s rip the Band-Aid off and get real for a minute. The people are tired of the sugar-coating and the party vibes. We want to listen to music with substance. This week, I found an artist that is doing just that, and his name Sapuis.

Hailing from the Bronx, Sapuis is an exceptional artist known for his introspective lyricism and his keen ear for production. Personally, I would consider him a pioneer of this new generation of artists that are trying to change the game. He is daring, raw, and his songs are relatable to even the most common man. When it comes to music, I have to relate to an artist or I’m not listening. Sapuis is just what I needed this week. The reason I like his sound is because he doesn’t put himself in a box. He has a genre-bending sound that allows all of his talents to shine. Now, he enters our pages with his sophomore album, “Before I Die”.

“Before I Die” is a 15-track masterpiece that is about living out your dreams before your time is up. It’s about self-exploration, self-reflection, and it is about finding your purpose. As someone who just lost his girlfriend to cancer, I have lost sight of a lot of things in my life. However, this album reminded me that I have to keep living. My life isn’t over yet. I have a higher purpose and there are things I need to accomplish before my end. This genre-fluid album is about self-fulfillment, and I would recommend to anyone that is filling down on life. We have to seize the moment because life isn’t promised.

My favorite songs were “We Outside” & “LFG”. Overall, this album is one of the best I have heard all year. With that being said, stream the album below and vibe out!
