While most college students have their brains fixated on late-night study sessions and second-guessing the looming thought of retiring the best four years of their lives, Jack Blocker and Reed Hoelscher have their minds fixated on a bigger accomplishment. The Fayetteville-based duo is focused on taking their group named ‘Rightfield’ to musical success.
With their new album ‘Rightfield, One’, it seems as if the duo have truly found a direction to call their own. The album draws inspiration from the late ’80s and early ‘90s music to create an indie-rock masterclass that has to be played from start to finish. The songs are mesmerizing, and the production is just as compelling.
The album is balanced to perfection, and we see the ability of the group to push their artistic boundaries. My personal favorite has to be ‘Gone!’. ‘Gone!’ feels like it’s straight out of an indie movie, and I want to dance to every second of it. The track is vibrant, and the smooth vocals matched with dance-worthy drums make it impossible to not smile.
Another standout for me has to be ‘Dreaming’. This record brings back nostalgic memories of being in high school and driving around with my friends on Friday nights after football games. ‘Dreaming’ is a full-on rush, and it just makes me happy to be alive. When things get overcomplicated, this is the type of song you put on and realize everything will be okay.
Lastly, the song that completes this album is ‘Himalayas’. When I first listened to the project, I’ll admit that I was indifferent to this song. However, after talking with the boys and going back and listening, I realized that this song is pivotal to the project. If there is one song that is irreplaceable on the album, it’s ‘Himalayas’. The multi-layered crescendos and the electric guitar that’s introduced midway through the track made me a huge fan.
Overall, ‘Rightfield, One’ is a great introduction to the group. It meshes elements of acoustic and indie rock while also incorporating moments of grunge throughout. This is an album you can listen to around a campfire, and it’s also one that can soundtrack those summer nights. With that being said, make sure to shoot the guys a follow and listen to the new project.

Lyrics That Stick: “Love Song”
”You're the coolest girl I've known at any moment
But I've never seen you feel the need to prove it
Confidence and grace
That couldn't care less for praise
From anywhere on this side of heaven”
