During the SoundCloud Era, we saw many of our favorite artists rise to global fame with the infectious tunes that allowed listeners to grow with them. There was a personal feel we got from the underground scene, and SoundCloud allowed young listeners a safe space to stream our favorite tracks without having to pay. Artists such as Lil Uzi, Trippie Redd, Lil Pump, and the late legends Lil Peep and XXXTENTACION used this platform to grow hardcore fanbases that are still around today. Another artist we saw come from this era was Smokepurpp. Smokepurpp captivated us with his catchy flows and in your face sounds which was a staple for the South Florida movement.
After an out of the blue announcement earlier this week, Smokepurpp offered fans a 6-track EP titled Psycho (Legally Insane). The project is a good return for the artist, and its artwork was inspired by Ozzy Osbourne’s famous bat moment from the ’80s. With a feature from Lil Mosey on ‘We Outside’, the EP does not disappoint. We get to see Smokepurpp in a modern lens with his infamous rap cadence glide over innovative production. The tracks are cohesive, and it seems as if he has matured with his sound over the years. Do yourself a favor and give this a listen!
Favorite Song: We Outside (feat. Lil Mosey)
Lyrics That Stick:
”Swerve in a big body with the gang (Gang)
And we keeping blickys,
we ain't worried 'bout a thing (Worried 'bout a thing)”
