Polarizing, talented, and innovative are all words that describe LA-based producer MÒZÂMBÎQÚE (a.k.a Andrew Smith). With credits that range from SYML, St. Lucia, Chali2na, and Jimi Somewhere, MÒZÂMBÎQÚE has continued to captivate listeners with his engaging sound. To characterize his soundscape, I would call it beautiful electronic music rooted in ambient experimental sensibilities and brushed with melancholy moments. Now, the emerging producer connects with Soft Palace to release their collab project “Peril 1998”.
The duo began their creation process in 2022, and despite recording everything remotely, they formed a special bond that transcended their love for music. The end result is a masterpiece. “Peril 1998’ shines due to its synth soundscape and experimentation with glitchy downtempo beats. With elements that can be considered hazy and bouncy, the EP falls somewhere between electronic, house, and ambient. It is the perfect soundtrack for the summer. The EP is made up of 6 shimmering records, and my favorites have to be “Resolve (ft. Pattie Lin)” & “NaturHaus”. “NaturHaus” is a synth lover’s paradise. I love the build-up and overall arrangement. The record is laced with lush vocal samples, engaging drums, and it will have you hypnotized. “Resolve (ft. Pattie Lin)” is one of two tracks that have vocals. I loved Pattie’s vocal delivery, and her vocal cadence matched well with the beat progression. Overall, this EP is a sonic journey that I consider to be a must-listen. There would be no MÒZÂMBÎQÚE if it weren’t for the beauty of the natural world. So, stream the EP below and vibe out!
