When it comes to music discovery, I find myself yearning for artists that push the boundaries and create for the love of the craft. I search for artists that I consider to be innovative, captivating, & versatile. This week, I came across my new guilty pleasure Lawrence Gaughan.

Hailing from Charlottesville, VA, Gaughan is a singer-songwriter & multi-instrumentalist that has continued to bless his listeners with captivating alternative indie-rock that evokes raw emotions. To add to his illustrious musical career, Gaughan is also an accredited actor, director, producer, non-profit founder, & major party congressional candidate. For me, Gaughan does it all. Although he’s a well accomplished man, his music is what has caught my attention. His ability to wear all the hats of the creation and engineering of a record makes him a force to be reckoned with. Since 2020, he has put out several albums and singles, and his talent shines through. Now, he debuts on our pages with his latest album, “Miracles”.

“Miracles” is an exceptional 10-track album, and I consider it to be Gaughan’s magnum opus. The instrumentation is engaging, and I loved how each song has it’s own identity. Although there aren’t lyrics on every record, each song is expressive, and they have their  own personal vibe & feeling. If I could describe this album in a few words, I would say it’s warm, colorful, progressive, and it’s daring. Gaughan’s guitar work can’t be touched. He shreds from start to finish, but he also incorporates other instruments to strengthen the overall sound of each record. My personal favorites were “Vista Seen Eyes” & “It’s a Good Life”. “Vista Seen Eyes” is laced with haunting vocals, and I loved the melodic feel of the record. This is a great late night drive song. “It’s a Good Life” is the perfect record for this time of year. It’s a warm song with a folkish element, and it has a nostalgic feel. The guitar’s riffs were a chef’s kiss, and I loved his vocals. Overall, this whole album is a must-listen so stream it below!
