Marco Paul is an accomplished composer, multi-instrumentalist, and audiovisual artist with a remarkable fifteen-year career that boasts an impressive repertoire of over 800 live performances, 8 albums, and numerous international tours with his acclaimed bands: Sour Soul, Ratbot, Funk My Jesus, and Marco Paul’s Soul Train Trio.

In his latest venture, Soul Train Trio, Marco Paul collaborates with the immensely talented Nicolas Silveira on drums and Jaime Aldaraca Ferrao on baritone saxophone and transversal flute. Originating in 2014, the trio has captivated audiences with their refreshing blend of soul, jazz, & funk. Their music is exceptional, and it will take you on a sonic journey that you won’t want to end. On May 25th, 2023, the trio released their first album “Soul Train Trio” that includes seven tracks and presents three ways of conceiving the world. By exploring multiple realities, the album invites the listener to experience the personal stories and perspectives of each member.

The album is a masterclass, and it further proves the quality and growth of the trio. My favorite singles are “Bugambilia”, “Dumbo”, & “The Art Of Hunter”. “Dumbo” is an exceptional record laced with a groovy bassline, bouncy keys, bolstering saxophones, & warm textures that make the song shine even more. “Bugambilia” is a funkier single with soulful elements. Organ-laden brightness and peppy brass infusions pair with falsetto-reaching vocal passion, reflecting being “in the midst of darkness,” as a sweltering vocal invigoration takes hold; here, the wordless enthusiasm and brass/organ interplay proves thrilling. “The Art Of Hunter” was my personal favorite from the album. It showcases the trio’s collective efforts to create a beautiful soundscape. Over the song’s 11-minute duration, the trio impress with various instrument changes, exceptional vocals, and a mesmerizing piano-led opening. Overall, this is one of my favorite albums of the year. So, stream it below and vibe out!
