Luke Beling is an artist that NEEDS to be in your rotation. With roots that trace back to South Africa, the Hawaiian-based singer-songwriter has an innate ability to craft introspective songs that evoke raw emotions out of his listeners. He’s one of the most polarizing artists that I have recently discovered, and he has a voice that will put you in a trance.  Drawing influence from the music his dad played for him as a kid, Beling has created a sound that is both spiritual & pop friendly. He uses stories and life lessons at the core of his records. This allows him to be a vessel of hope and optimism. Now, he enters our pages with his debut album “A Stone in the Mouth of the Ocean”.

“A Stone in the Mouth of the Ocean” is more than an album. It’s an experience that takes listeners on a sonic journey that they won’t want to end. Cohesive at its core, each song builds on the next. For me, this is one of the most complete projects I have heard all year. Over the 9 tracks, Beling brings his all. From his vocal delivery to his songwriting, the project is exceptional. To add to that, the production is captivating. My favorite songs from the album were “Nightbirds” & “The Blessed and the Damned”. “Nightbirds” is a folk masterpiece. Beling’s vocals have a warmth that provides an unwavering comfort. The record is beautiful, and the instrumentation provides the overall sound with so much emotion. This is the kind of song you listen to around a campfire with your loved ones. I loved the song arrangement, and the lyrics were easy to connect. I felt seen listening to this song. “The Blessed and the Damned” has some of the best songwriting on the project. Beling’s vocal delivery was at its best on this record. The record was laced with lush melodies, engaging harmonies, and hook that will make you feel optimistic about the future. Overall, this album has been the best thing to happen to me over the past few weeks. I loved the album and I have become a fan of Beling. So, stream his album below and witness greatness!
