As an artist, the idea of recreating yourself can be difficult. However, when it’s done right, it can manifest something truly beautiful. With decades of musical experience, Craig Douglas Miller has been an artist that has had a powerful impact on my life over the last few months. His vocal and guitar ability are exceptional, and he has this innate ability to craft introspective singles that pull at listeners heartstrings.

At 50 years-old, Miller’s musical journey has had its highs & lows. After taking a 20-year hiatus to deal with clinical depression & writers block, Miller’s love for music was reignited after an inspirational meeting with legendary guitarist Marty Willson-Piper (The Church, Noctorum, All About Eve). Marty was the missing piece that Miller needed to revive his dream. After spending time during the pandemic diving deeper into his creative mindset, Miller & Marty connected to form Blueburst. Blueburst is polarizing, and they are known for their colorful sound that dives into the nostalgia and legacy of ‘80s alternative post-punk. In an industry that values virality and popularity, it’s great to see artists making music because they love the art. Blueburst bring a rawness & honesty that reminds me of the music I grew up listening to. Now, they enter our pages with their latest album "Significance".

I consider "Significance" to be Miller’s rebirth, and it serves as his magnum opus. Over the 11-track album, Blueburst dive into the trials & tribulations of life. Miller discusses his struggles, inner psyche, and his triumphs that led him to where he is now. I enjoyed the overall storytelling and attention to detail throughout the album. Sonically, the percussion and vocal delivery were exceptional. Cohesive at its core, the album is a blessing to those seeking a cathartic release.

My favorite songs from the album were “Vanish” & “Supernova”. “Vanish” is a nostalgic sounding record that is laced with heavy rock guitars and a 90s underground alternative sound. I loved the chord progressions, and the bassline was captivating. “Supernova” is colorful cinematic single that catches your ear with its up tempo sonics. This was my personal favorite from the album. Overall, there are n skips on “Significance”. The album takes listeners on a sonic journey that they won’t want to end. We get to witness the fall and rise of a man that is committed to bettering himself for the sake of art. This is my album of the year!
