Captivating, mesmerizing, and versatile are all words that describe emerging singer-songwriter Locomote. Known for his melodic sound that is laced with lush melodies and hypnotizing synths, Locomote’s music evokes raw emotions out of his audience. He is a breath of fresh air, and his music pushes the boundaries. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Phoenix, Tame Impala, Local Natives, & Wilco, the burgeoning star has found a way to craft a sound that is the perfect mixture of raw & unique. As a music journalist, Locomote is the kind of artist I yearn for. He’s a music industry disruptor that continues to release memorable records. Now, he debuts on our pages with his latest EP “Love In Reverse”.

“Love In Reverse” is a transformative project that showcases Locomote at his best. Although it’s only 3 songs, each song is dynamic and has its own personality. The records are raw, underproduced, and they are laced with textures that allow the listener to connect from a sonic and vocal level. There’s a beauty in listening to music that isn’t quote on quote “perfect sounding”. A slightly muddy mix and drowned out production can sometimes be a stylish way to preserve the authenticity of a record. I feel like Locomote did an incredible job at this. This is what Locomote had to say about the creation process and his favorite song off of the project:

“My favorite part of creating is just expressing my emotion without trying to over stress the detail. It’s somewhat of a personal diary for me; an escape to just feel whatever emotion makes sense. Since I produce, engineer, and record everything on my own in my studio I can get away and just find the right place in my heart to process emotions that come up. My personal favorite is brother on that EP because it is so direct to a vein in my emotions. I just let it out and it’s under produced I know, and somewhat less of the fidelity in a way of what I can do but I just wanted to let that emotional expression be what it was. A single time of sitting down and letting out what was in my heart.”

When it comes to my favorite song, I would have to say, “Lay Your Head Down”. “Lay Your Head Down” is an exceptional record laced with warm synths, engaging lyricism, and I loved the song structure. This was a danceable record that is perfect for late night drives. The reverb selection for his vocals were spot on, and his vocal delivery was a chef’s kiss. Overall, this collection of songs show Locomote’s star power and versatility. With that being said, stream the project below and vibe out!
