Sally Boy Impresses On His New EP, ‘Lies I Tell Myself’

My first introduction to Sally Boy was hearing ‘Chess & Checkers’ a few months back, and I was instantly hooked. This dude just has an effortless way of combining energetic, rhythmic pop and alternative elements in such a catchy way. I can always count on being in a better mood after hearing his music! Now, with the release of this 8-song EP, ‘Lies I Tell Myself,’ I’m convinced everyone needs to hop on the Sally Boy bandwagon if they haven’t already.

The versatility and range in emotion is what caught my attention on the first go-around. Sally Boy relays stories of heartbreak in songs like ‘Baby Don’t Leave’, being overwhelmed with life in songs like ‘Thought I Was Dead’, and even reflects on what true love looks like in the beautiful outro that ‘Martha’ serves as.

This is a project you won’t want to miss. With such genuine vulnerability and life-giving, youthful sounds, this project feels like somewhat of a launchpad for Sally Boy and his career into mainstream. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of him this next year!

Favorite Song: Martha

Lyrics That Stick:

“Maybe it’s the same as it was before

Maybe all I’ll ever need is more”
