Hailing from Houston, TX, emerging hip-hop act, Kenner Wells, has taken the industry by storm. With years of experience in the industry, he is known for founding the collective MadGenius and being a part of the joint collaboration Cache Only. After years of playing a part in collectives and duos, the burgeoning star redirected his focus into his solo career. With a sound that can be described as Disco Rap, Wells creates records that blend various sounds. He is a true artist, and his versatility shouldn’t be overlooked. Wells is captivating and his lyrical prowess is otherworldly. After impressing me with his single “One of Us Has to Lose: last year, he enters our pages with debut album “Good Pups Get Pets”.

“Good Pups Get Pets” is an 8-track album that showcases Kenner Wells at his absolute best. From the vocal performances to the sonics, Kenner delivers one of the most captivating albums of 2023. Cohesive at its core, each song builds on the next. Lyrically, Wells can’t miss. The way he structures his songs is exceptional. “Good Pups Get Pets” is Kenner’s magnum opus, and the album is completed with collaborations from highly talented artists. The album features Izzy Gambino, Drodie Texas, Attxla, & NICE KAYLEE. Each song is a masterclass. Laced with lush melodies, ear-worm hooks, and captivating songwriting, the album has no skips. I have yet to hear a rising rapper with his vocal delivery, lyrical precision, and keen ear for production. My favorite songs from the album were “For An Old Flame”, “Jonesin’”, & “Prison Crocs”. From start to finish, Wells shines on this project. To say that it is album of the year might be too soon, but I’m casting my vote on this project. With that being said, if you want to listen to one of the greatest rising rappers, look no further. Kenner Wells has landed, and his new project is the best thing I have heard all week!
