Have you ever listened to a band that caught your attention on the first listen? If so, what was it that made them stand out. Was it their production or song structure? Or was it their ability to create a sound that you felt relatable? For me, I’m always searching for daring bands that make music for the love of their craft. I yearn to escape my everyday life and immerse myself in the art of someone that I have no connection with. This week, I was impressed when I came across the captivating 3-piece alt-pop band JENTL.

Hailing from New York City, JENTL has taken the music industry by storm. They are raw, daring, and captivating. Known for their engaging sound that blends elements of alt-pop, electro-pop, & funk, they create an immersive soundscape that transport listeners into a beautiful world of groove and dance. JENTL is fronted by Darren Dominique Davis, joined by bassist Daniel Mehaffey and drummer Jimmy Arvan. Now, they enter our pages with their captivating EP “People Change”.

“People Change” is the band’s sophomore EP, and it’s otherworldly. The EP blends elements of French House, Disco, Soul-Pop, and Drum and Bass, & it’s a testament to the band’s growth. From start to finish, I was hooked. From the vocal tones to the instrumentation, “People Change” is a standout project. The EP also features production from Dan Freeman, guitar work from Russell Graham (Chic, Dua Lipa), drum engineering from Omar Hakim (David Bowie, Daft Punk), and a feature from Singer/Songwriter Chris Keating (formerly of the band Yesayaer).

My favorite records from the projects were “We Gotta Run” & “Nobody”. After impressing me with their debut EP “Terminal”, I can confidently say that “People Change” is their magnum opus. This is the most complete body of work they have to date, and everything was perfected. The songwriting was pure, the vocals were exceptional, and the production provided a warmth that was comforting and grooving. This is a project that leans into all your moods. There is a song for everyone on this EP, and that’s why it stands out. The band have struck gold, and this EP deserves a listen. Stream it below and vibe out!
