Captivating, daring, and raw all are words that describe the mesmerizing Increased Damage. Increased damage is the solo project of Robert Carrick, and his sound is a nostalgic blast from the past with modern elements. Drawing influences from 90s & early 2000s alternative rock, punk, and grunge, Increased Damage blends these genres together to present a sound that focuses on self-discovery and personal growth. Pushing the boundaries of modern music, Increased Damage doesn’t give in to genre norms. This musical project was created to bring music lovers into a musical ecosystem where they can fall in love with relatable lyricism and innovative production. Now, Increased Damage debuts on our pages with his debut album “Spark”.
“Spark” is a transformative 10-track project that emotional, angsty, and it takes you on musical journey that you won’t want to end. The album is fierce, energetic, and the music will make you want to run through a wall. I have yet to hear an album that was as vibrant & colorful as this project. His ability to present energetic songs while also tackling topics of depression, pain, and self-doubt is what makes Increased Damage so special. Increased Damage bears it all and gives us the highs and lows while evoking raw emotions out of his listeners. From the songwriting to the sonics, this album was exceptional. Vocally, I found Carrick’s delivery to be captivating and his tonality was a chef’s kiss. This is what he had to say about the album:
“It's been a long time coming but, I've finally found my sound. Now it's time to find my tribe. I write music that is familiar but also evokes emotion. Lyrics that tell a story but are open to interpretation have always been my favorite. It's a combination of that punk rock feeling that gets your blood pumping and the emotional creativity of alternative rock. It promotes feelings everyone can relate to and doesn't take itself too seriously."
Overall, “Spark” is a must-listen album. My favorite songs were “It Won’t Be Long”, “Pretend It’s OK”, & “Parasite”. I felt that those songs give a complete idea on Increased Damage’s sound. As a complete album, this was the most enjoyable experience I have had in a while. Increased Damage has that “IT” factor, and I can’t wait to watch him grow!
