When it comes to music discovery, I always find myself searching for artists that are willing to bring listeners into their world. I yearn for artists that are looking to push the boundaries lyrically & sonically. Because of that, I find myself searching for disruptors that refuse to align with the genre norms. Although it’s often hard finding these artists, it feels like I hit the lottery when I do. This week, I came across a diamond in the rough called LaCrystt.

Coming from humble beginnings with a Jamaican household, LaCrystt has drawn influence from a wide range of reggae, R&B, dancehall, jersey club, and many more. Taking those different influences has made LaCrystt a prolific songwriter, producer, and engineer in the music industry. For me, LaCrystt is one of the most captivating artists in the industry. From the sonics to the songwriting prowess, LaCrystt can’t be put into a box. Now, the emerging artist debuts on our pages with their captivating EP, “Behind These Eyes”.

“Behind These Eyes” is a reflective EP that highlights LaCrystt’s quick growth & maturity as an artist. LaCrystt bears it all and discusses topics of loss, freedom, love, heartbreak, and the nuances of dealing with situations you have no control over. LaCrystt has this innate ability to craft songs that evoke raw emotions from their listeners. That is a talent in itself. In a time where most projects seem like glorified playlists, LaCrystt has brought back real music. The artist’s ability to create an EP that is cohesive and has a theme makes this project so moving as a listener. I had yet to find a project that felt relatable until I heard this. My favorite songs were “Ecstasy” & “Nobody 2 Trust”. Overall, this a must-listen album so make sure to stream it below!
