Hailing from across the pond, emerging indie-rock band, City Pets, has become my new obsession. With a sound that blends alternative & indie rock, they craft songs that are nostalgic with a modern touch. Formed in 2022, the band consists of Len (Vocals and Rhythm Guitar), Stef (Vocals and Lead Guitar), Dan (Vocals and Bass Guitar) and Lorcan (Drums). They are genuine, and they have a sensible factor that makes them easy to connect with. Now, they debut on our pages with their latest EP “Heavy Petting”.

“Heavy Petting” is a 3-track EP that follows the bands previous singles “Take me Away” & “Love at the Worst Time”. The EP was recorded with Daniel Doherty in Darklands Studios and mastered by the great Pete Maher.

“Heavy Petting” is a cohesive project, and it is carried by 3 exceptional records. The EP kicks off with the electric sounding hit “Sweet Emulsion”. “Sweet Emulsion” is laced with warm sonics, engaging electric guitars, and I loved the raspy vocals. This is a record you will want to listen to on a nice summer afternoon. I loved how bright the vocals were, and the hook is strong. Following “Sweet Emulsion”, the band enter with their surf-rock influenced single “Ordinary Guy”. The record is a hazy masterpiece carried by lush melodies, dynamic production, and an ear-worm hook. This single is an absolute summer anthem. I picture myself on the coast surfing with my best friends when I listen to this. The EP ends with “Caroline”. “Caroline” is an introspective record over upbeat production. I loved the vocal change on this one. In my opinion, the lighter vocal delivery was the perfect fit for this compared to the raspier vocals. In addition, the guitars were otherworldly. Overall, this has been one of my favorite musical experiences of the year. City Pets have made a fan out of me, so stream their EP below and vibe out.
