When it comes to music discovery, I am always looking for artists that are pushing the boundaries sonically. I need to be able to feel your music, and I want to have the ability to immerse myself in the world you craft through your sound. Although it seems harder than ever to find artists like this, there are still those that are going against the grain and providing listeners an escape with their musical talents.

Recently, I came across one of the most polarizing DJs globally and his name is Kahpun. Hailing from Cape Coast, Ghana, Kahpun (Heart of Africa Reggae/Dancehall), is a well-established DJ that represents the Higher Heightz Army. His sound can be described as a mixture of Dancehall, Reggae, and Afro Beats which I consider to be the recipe for success. Kahpun is a straight up vibe. If you are a frequent lounge or club goer, then you will instantly become a fan of his unique sound. Although I’m fairly new to his sound, he impressed me with his singles ‘What Dem Waan” & “Makeup”. Now, he debuts on our pages with his highly anticipated album “The Dice”.

Just like the title, the album is daring, vibey, and you can tell he took some chances that worked in his favor. As an artist, your every move can be looked at as a chance, and it is a lonely road when you are trying to succeed. For me, this album is about beating all the odds and elevating. It’s Kahpun’s nod to his recent & continued success.

“The Dice” is a 12-track solo album with production acknowledgment to Ivan Beatz, Ephraim Beatz, Kopow, J-Thug, Awaga. Overall, I found the album to be very cohesive and engaging. Kahpun tackles issues from love, romance, family, celebration, party, social commentary and conscious revolutionary lyrics in a bid to bring about meaningful change to his community, and at large, the world through the power of words and sounds. In addition, although he does maneuver and blend multiple genres, he still maintains his voice and originality. This album is a testament to self-growth. Kahpun has entered the chat and he is turning heads with his musical ability. So, catch the wave before it is too late.
