Mesmerizing, enchanting, and captivating are all words that describe emerging singer-songwriter Ellie Temple. Hailing from the suburbs of New Jersey, Ellie Temple, the musical project of Michelle Magpong, has taken the music industry by storm. Drawing inspiration from living in New York & LA, she is able to capture a feeling that only those that live in those cities could understand. Her songs are daring, authentic, and they make you yearn for simpler times. Her sound is fresh yet nostalgic, and she has this innate ability to bring a flair that is otherworldly. With influences that include Stevie Nicks, Johnny Cash, & Prince, Temple takes elements from them all to create a sound that provides charming take to heartbreak. Now, the burgeoning star enters our pages with her latest EP “Runnin’ on Empty”.

“Runnin’ on Empty” is a reflective project that is carried by 5 well-crafted songs that reflect on the end of a 5-year relationship. Over the EP’s duration, Temple takes us through the 5 stages of grief after freeing herself from a tumultuous relationship. She discusses the roller coaster of denying, hurting, bargaining, mourning, and accepting the break-up. The EP is authentic and laced with records that draw from multiple genres. There is a song for everyone on the project, and the songs evoke raw emotions out of her listeners. I would consider the project to be lofty modern-folk, pop, & rock undertones. My favorite songs from the album were “Breaking” & “Man on the Moon”.

Overall, this was one of the most sonically pleasing and lyrically exceptional records I have heard all year. Although she is still growing, the “IT” factor is there. Ellie has so much to give, and she will continue to grow as an artist. With the world at the palm of her hands, I can’t wait to see her continue to shine. For now, stream her latest project below!
