When it comes to music discovery, I always find myself searching for bands that are willing to bring listeners into their world. I yearn for bands that are looking to push the boundaries lyrically & sonically. Because of that, I find myself searching for disruptors that refuse to align with the genre norms. Although it’s often hard finding these bands, it feels like I hit the lottery when I do. This week, I came across a diamond in the rough called American Progress.
Hailing from Milwaukee, the emerging punk band is made up of Andrew David Weber (singer-guitarist), Steve Madsen (bass), & Tristan Wallace (drums). After impressing me with their 3-track EP “Unprocessed” in 2021, they have continued to shine. For me, I consider American Progress to be daring, captivating, and they evoke raw emotions out of their listeners. Now, they debut on our pages with their latest album “Dewey NO!”.
“Dewey NO!” is a transformative album, and I consider it to be the band’s magnum opus. Over the 10-track album, they explore themes of pop culture and social behavior. Sonically, the album is in your face and the lyricism is exceptional. The album was mixed by their drummer Tristan Wallace, and it was mastered by renowned engineer Ted Jensen. From start to finish, the project provided a breath of fresh air, and it shows the bands growth and attention to detail.
My favorite songs from the album were “Deadbeat”, “All Falls”, & “Outlaw”. I connected with those songs the most, and I felt that they had a level of introspection that many would consider relatable. Overall, this album was a knockout. “Dewey NO!” is everything you would want in a debut album, and American Progress rise to the occasion. So, stream the album below!
