Have you ever listened to an artist that caught your attention on the first listen? If so, what was it that made them stand out. Was it their production or song structure? Or was it their ability to create a sound that you felt relatable? For me, I’m always searching for daring bands that make music for the love of their craft. I yearn to escape my everyday life and immerse myself in the art of someone that I have no connection with. This week, I was impressed when I came across emerging pop-punk newcomer Heather Kathryn.

Hailing from Phoenix, AZ, the LA-based singer has taken the industry by storm. She is raw, daring, and captivating. For me, she is mixture of Avril Lavigne, Paramore, and early Kelly Clarkson. I can feel her passion and emotion in each song, and she has continued to prove that she has that “IT” factor. Now, she debuts on our pages with her latest EP, “MY TRAGIC LIFE”.

“MY TRAGIC LIFE” is a 6-track masterpiece that details her dating mishaps and the general fast paced life of an early 20- something in Los Angeles. The EP is daring, and I loved her lyrical approach. Kathryn rises to the occasion, and she impresses with her captivating vocals & songwriting prowess. It is rare to come across an artist with this much vocal control and identity so early in their career. However, Heather Kathryn proves that she has the star power to shine. This is what she had to say about the project:

“The EP is just like oh my life is kind of a mess right now, let me scream and listen to songs that convey what I’m feeling. Driving down the highway in your car feeling some way about how everything is going.”

My favorite songs from the project were “GO TO HELL”, “Daddy Issues”, & “Masochist”. From start to finish, this EP stands out, and it is a reflective project that relates to many. I loved the angst, and the nostalgic feel of the sonics. Overall, this EP is a must-listen so stream it below.
