Hailing from Wales, emerging singer-songwriter, DADDY DRWG, has become my new obsession. From a sonic standpoint, his songs have a rawness and boldness that feels refreshing. He’s innovative, captivating, and his versatility as a vocalist, songwriter, and producer makes him a triple threat. He initially caught my attention with his single “I’m Your Waste Of Time”. The record is laced with lush melodies, a captivating bass line, and the hook is otherworldly. Although this was my introduction to DADDY DRWG, it was an impressive one. Now, the burgeoning star enters our pages with his debut album, “A Tree Called Happy”.

“A Tree Called Happy” is a 10-track masterpiece that draws influence from real life events and experiences. DADDRY DRWG bears it all and his ability to incorporate themes of dark humor, unhealthy obsession, and the ebbs & flows of a relationship makes this extremely relatable. Over the albums runtime, he doesn’t skip a beat or hold anything back. He presents his authentic self. Although his single “I’m Your Waste Of Time” was an early favorite of mine due to it being released before the album, the album is carried by 9 other haunting and mesmerizing records that I believe will stand the test of time.

My favorite records from the album were “Domino” &  “Object”. “Domino” is laced with captivating guitar riffs, and his vocal delivery was the definition of a chef’s kiss. DADDY DRWG’s silk vocals allowed his vocals to touch me at my core. In my opinion, his delivery evoked raw emotions and provided a necessary depth to the track. For me, I loved the variety in sonic elements on this song, and I felt the subject matter and overall performance was exceptional. Another personal favorite was “Object”. “Object: takes listeners on sonic rollercoaster that they won’t want to end. For me, I fell in love with the distinctive vocals, engaging strings, and piaon elements. Overall, trhis was such a groovy beat. All in all, “Object” is an innovative record that provided life to the album.

Overall, this was a transformative album that I feel has awakened me to one of the most polarizing artists in music. DADDY DRWG has caught my attention, and I believe that his music should be everywhere. He’s unlike anything that I have heard, and his new album deserves a listen.
