Cherri Voncelle a.k.a Cherri V is one of the most polarizing artists out. Why do I say that? I say this because the London-based singer-songwriter has continued to captivate listeners with her innovative brand of r&b that will pull at your heartstrings. Her records feature sensible lyrics, and her vocal range is otherworldly. With over a decade spent in the music industry, the singer has continued to refine her sound. Her lyrics have matured, vocals have strengthened, and her soundscape is more pleasing than ever before. After impressing us with her previous singles “Lonely One” & “Ready 4 Love”, Cherri V enters our pages with her highly anticipated album “The Red Journal”.

The album takes listeners on an emotional and introspective voyage, delving into the artist's personal journal entries from 2019 to 2023 narrated by Bea Anderson, Triple O & Jessie J. With a captivating blend of soul, R&B, and acoustic melodies, Cherri V courageously shares her experiences of overcoming sexual abuse, transitioning out of a marriage, navigating the complexities of dating and situationships, and ultimately finding love again.

For me, this is Cherri’s magnum opus. The album is cohesive, and it feels like she is ready to take the next big step in her career. It’s everything you could ever want as a listener. The records are raw & that serves as a testament to Cherri's resilience and unwavering spirit. Each track is carried by heartfelt lyrics, lush melodies, & emotive vocals. With production from PRGRSHN (Tiana Major 9, Stormzy, WSTRN), Cherri V is able to shine vocally. My favorite songs from the album were “Ready 4 Love” & “Lonely One”. “Ready 4 Love” is a lovely single that serves as a vivid exploration of unrequited love. The record is bittersweet at its core, and it is an elegy to the struggle of longing for someone who remains tantalizingly out of reach. “Lonely One” is my favorite sonically. Her vocal approach was sharp, and her lyrics were direct. In addition, the sonic arrangement and build up were exceptional. Although those were my favorite, the entire album is mesmerizing. If you are in search of an artist that can pull your layers back and show you what true self-defined music is, look no further. Cherri V may have the album of the year!
