When it comes to the most polarizing artists in the industry, Amelie Jat is a name that is often mentioned. Over the last few years, the burgeoning star has developed a cult-like fanbase with her ability to craft captivating singles that pull at listeners heartstrings. The Hong Kong native is vibrant, mesmerizing, and she has the “IT” factor. Covering themes of love, heartbreak, and growing up, she has become a vessel of freedom for those that listen. Although most say that comparison is the thief of joy, there are multiple parallels between Amelie and Nessa Barrett’s music. They both bring a rawness and introspective side that is often relatable to those that listen.

Taking the industry by storm, Jat is ready to make her grand entrance with her latest album “for the plot”. “for the plot” is an angsty album that captures the freedom, nostalgia, and journey of growing up. Jat touches on themes of love, heartbreak, mental health, and the chaos that surrounds being young & naïve. When you’re young, it can be hard finding your own identity. It can be messy, chaotic, and it’s an ongoing journey. Amelie Jat allows listeners to dive into her personal journey over the 13-track album.

As a fan of Amelie Jat, I was amazed by her mature songwriting and vocal growth. Her tonality and delivery were exceptional in each record. In addition, I found the pop-punk sonics to be daring and ear-catching. In my opinion, this was her most intimate work to date. When it comes to the project as a whole, there were no skips. Each song plays a pivotal part in her overall story, and I loved how she pieced it all together. My favorite songs from the project were “I’M OUT!”, “nostalgia”, & “2028”. “I’M OUT” is an explorative record that is laced with captivating melodies, colorful sonics, and an ear-worm hook. This was the statement record on the album. “nostalgia” is an introspective record that is carried by lush vocals, and it truly shows Jat’s ability to dig deeper lyrically. “2028” is a dreamy record that shows Amelie Jat at her absolute best. The record is wistful, and it stands out due to its dreamlike synths, pulsating beat, & airy piano. Overall, this is one of the most captivating projects of the year. So, stream it below!
