Music discovery has been and will continue to be about finding the artists & bands that are set to change the entire industry. In a time where music feels formulaic and emotionless, I continue to search for musicians that are pioneering this next generation. Regardless of monthly listeners and hype, all I care about is the music. What story are you trying to tell? What sets you apart from the rest of the industry? Do I can connect with this? These are all questions that I try to answer when finding new artists & band. This week, I came across a band that has caught my attention. That band is Baydream.

Hailing from Hamburg, Baydream is a genre-bending indie-rock band that have taken the industry by storm. Their music blends elements of indie-rock, pop, conscious hip-hop, soul, punk, & electronica with jazzy elements into one captivating sound. They are raw, daring, and their music has flair. When I listen to them, I feel like I’m floating on a cloud. Their songs are atmospheric, and they have a psychedelic feel that I love. Although I’m new to them, I can tell they are moving music forward. They can’t be put into a box. Now, the debut on our pages with their latest EP, “Punk House”.

In my opinion, we will look back at “Punk House” and say it defined a new generation of rock. This project is a colorful masterpiece that was painted by a very talented band. The songs are dynamic, and I loved the rich sonics. Vocally, it was a chef’s kiss. Each record was laced with lush melodies, warm vocal tones, and percussive elements that will make you want to either chill or dance the night away. If I could describe their music with one word, I would say that it’s nostalgic. The production is smooth, the guitar riffs are gritty, and their soulful melodies are otherworldly. This EP is what modern music should sound like. Personally, I believe the project to be a celebration of diversity in sound & spirit.

“Punk House” is a cohesive EP, and I consider it to be the Baydream’s magnum opus. My favorite songs were “Drug” & “Forever”. “Drug” is vibey record carried by vibrant instrumentation, and I loved the raspy vocals. This reminds me of late 2000s & early 2010s indie-rock. This takes me back to high school where me and my friends would get high in the summer. It reminds me a bit of “Girlfriend” by the French band Phoenix. “Forever” feels like an acid trip you don’t want to end. I feel like I’m floating in the abyss touching colors listening to this. The record is carried by atmospheric production, and it makes you feel like you are in a dream. Overall, this is my project of the year at the moment. I loved everything about this EP. So, stream it below and vibe out.
