Anderson Hao Bears It All On Her Latest Album, “out of slogans”

Engaging, daring, and captivating are all words that describe emerging singer-songwriter Anderson Hao. After discovering the artist early on in her career, Anderson has continued to blossom as a singer & a songwriter. With her silky yet warm vocals, her music provides a comfort that I don’t get from many other artists. The crazy thing is that I don’t even believe she knows how talented she is. Navigating the modern music industry, Anderson is in a place where she is ready to show her true colors. She has released countless songs, and she has created her own unique sound. Although there is still room to grow, I feel like she is finally coming into her own. Now, she enters our pages with her latest album “out of slogans”.

“out of slogans” is the artist’s most honest work, and she spent most of the early part of this year making it with her partner Ari Rivera. Personally, this 8-track masterpiece is her magnum opus. The way her vocals touch each track is exceptional. For me, Anderson bears it all on this album in a way she has never done before. Although she takes an introspective approach with most of her music, there is something different with this album. It’s her tone. Anderson feels like she has matured, and she is ready to face all that life has to offer without having to scream it from the mountain tops. She’s beating personal demons & finally letting go of past traumas. This is an album about independence, loss, freedom, and taking back what is meant for you. This is what she had to say about the album:

BOTD:  What went into the creation process of the album?

Anderson: “This album was made predominantly by my partner, Ari Rivera, and I in a studio garage at our music collective. Most of the songs were produced out either from a song I had written prior of or a demo I produced by myself at home and brought in. The project was mixed and mastered by our super talented friend Jerod Naranjo who is also a part of our collective.”

BOTD: What is your favorite song from the project?

Anderson: “Takes two to is my favorite off of this project. It was the last song Ari and I made for the record, and it just felt like a big step up from everything else. It came together really easily and when we finished it we both kind of had that 'wow we really make music' realization moment. It's the closing song and at the time we felt it would be the direction we head in for the next project.”

BOTD: What do you want listeners to take from this project?

Anderson: “Honestly nothing specific. It's been out for some weeks now and I’ve gotten some really sweet messages from people telling me how they relate. That's really all I want from music. For me it's an act of release and an exploration of honesty. If it resonates and people identify themself in any part of it, I’m happy. I want to make music that makes even just one person feel seen and understood and less alone.”

BOTD: What can we expect from you in the future?

Anderson: “I've been spending time working on Ari's project out of our home studio that we built this summer. The songs are amazing, and I’m just stoked to have a hand in producing them out. Next week I’m starting the next project that I hope to get out before the end of the year. I am focused on playing live shows and getting better as a performer. I feel pretty hopeful about the future and what is to come with my artist project and my partners and all of my friends. I'm trying not to set really specific goals and just enjoy the process instead.”

Overall, this is one of the best albums I have listened to all year. As far as songs go, my favorites were “the end”, “ruin July”, & “everyone before”. Anderson Hao is a special artist that I will continue to advocate for. She is a pioneer of this new generation of artists, and she has that “IT” factor.
