Covering the unknown and known is something we pride ourselves on at BOTD. Although we love shining a light on mainstream music, we also love giving a voice to the next generation of hitmakers. We are always searching for artists that we feel can make a breakthrough in this overcrowded musical landscape. Under the thousands of artists I listen to on a daily basis, I often come across a hidden a gem that I feel deserves to be highlighted. This week I’m happy to present one of my favorite recent finds. That artist is 2face $avage. For those that are new to his sound, 2face $avage has been one of the most polarizing rappers of the last 2-3 years. He is raw, calculated, and he is a hitmaker. After impressing me with his singles “ROCK OUT!”, “Painkillers”, & “Eye Addiction”, the emerging rapper debuts on our pages with his fiery new album “$avage Files PT1”.
“$avage Files PT1” is one of the most complete body of works I have heard all year. Sitting at 11 tracks, 2face $avage releases an edgy album that showcases his versatility, exceptional vocal delivery, and his knack to rap over innovative production that will set the tone for everyone in Hip-Hop. The album is unlike anything I have put on play. It’s not just an album. “$avage Files PT1” is a musical experience.
In a calculated manner, the project sets fire with his delivery on his opening track “Gen 5”. “Gen 5” opens with a piano bass line and a snapping beat reminiscent of Kendrick Lamar. 2face $avage shines with his surgical flows that cut through the sonics with precision. His bars are refined, and his presence is will received. As the album progresses, tracks like “Spazz Out” and “Do not like you” demonstrate 2face $avage’s ability to create diverse sonic landscapes. Personally, I’m a huge fan of “We roll deep”. I loved how dynamic the production is, and his cadence selection was stellar. His ability to stay in the pocket and assert is confidence makes you fall in love with bravado.
Although some artists start a project strong, I often see the quality lessen throughout a project. However, this project is quality from start to finish. We see his artistic vision with songs like “ALARM!”, and his raw delivery shines on “No Friends ($avage Freestyle)”. Overall, 2face $avage has created a real fan out of me and this project deserves to be applauded. With that being said, I can’t wait to hear more from the rising rapper. Until then, stream his new album that was released under his own Twoface Records label.
