Since emerging on the scene during the SoundCloud-era, Trippie Redd has been known for his gritty sound that blurs the lines of modern hip-hop and rock. With his otherworldly vocals and often darker sonics, Trippie made a name for himself with his ability to express his raw emotions in an artistic way. Whether he was belting his heart our or discussing real life issues, Redd always seemed to create quality music. Now, the Ohio rap-crooner announces his forthcoming album “A Love Letter To You 5” and drops off a captivating new single “Take My Breath Away”.
If this single is what the album will sound like, it is a brave and successful departure from his gritty trap-rock infused sound. Although, his last few albums, have leaned more heavily on either the Lex Luger-ish and murky Pi’erre Bourne-inspired video game trap, “Take My Breath Away” has more in common with mid-2000s Quiet Storm radio-inspired hits from the likes of LL Cool J. With an R&B inflected beat and chorus, Trippie shines with his old-school rap delivery. At times he sounds like Wiz Khalifa with more focus and stronger delivery. The song is groovy and Skye Morales was the cherry on top. With his latest transformation, Trippie proves he remains one of the most versatile rappers in music today. Although we will have to wait for the album, stream the visual for the single above!
