Canadian alt-pop quartet, Valley, release a new video and single for ‘SOCIETY’. The single is a follow-up to their single ‘Like 1999’ that came out earlier this year, and I must say that you will want to have it on replay.
‘SOCIETY’ is a single that depicts the quartets view on the politics of the music industry, and the single takes a stand against the pressures of what the music industry wants from it’s artists. It is fun and relatable, and the video is just as entertaining.
The visuals begin with the group in a label meeting being told that they need to churn out hits if they ever want to be stars. This idea of perfection and pressure is painted throughout the lyrics of the song, and you can feel how the need to please everyone brought on so much anxiety by the reactions shown in the video. As the video progresses, we see the group develop bad habits from keeping everyone happy and they eventually burn out. However, the ending shows a very sweet choreographed dance the quartet executes in a grass field to bring back the togetherness that we love to see from them. Although there is a deep message within the song, the single is upbeat and it’s the perfect song to play when you feel like you’re not enough.
Lyrics That Stick:
“Wait, Might need a break
To Overtake
This cycle of another song, a different day”
