Meia - Friends With Benefits (Official Video)

With it’s bold aesthetic and retro tone, 22-year old Pop artist Meia’s latest single, “Friends With Benefits,” conveys its message not only through the song’s lyrics and production, but also through the Meia and Stone Wertz-directed accompanying video. “Friends With Benefits” tells a frustrating story relatable to millions of college students all across America. Navigating the dating scene as a teenager and young adult in the wake of America’s sexual liberation and subsequent revolutions, dating seems to be replaced with a guessing game of emotions and motivations. Meia tackles her dissatisfaction with today’s hook-up culture head-on with “Friends With Benefits.”

The straightforward single, co-written by Meia, Dan Burke, Kevin Smart, and Will Ventres, is a bold admonishment of the games that are played when people are selfish with their emotions. A seemingly good situation can turn manipulative very quickly, and it’s frustrating to not be on the same page with an unrequited love. If you’ve ever been on either side of the situation, you’ll surely relate to “Friends With Benefits.”

Lyrics That Stick:

“How could I stop when these niggas behind me is on the chase, yeah
How could I stop when I got what my momma made last year in my face, (Let’s go)
I view the past year as a waste”
