For many music listeners, playlists are the driving force to finding their new favorite artists. With that being said, there is something beautiful about finding a new artist that can captivate you enough to disrupt your normal listening patterns. On their new single ‘HARDCORE HAPPY’, THE BLOSSOM takes us back to the 90s with a genre-bending single that touches on anxiety, gender dysphoria, and insecurities. Along with the release of their new single, they announced their forthcoming EP 97 BLOSSOM, and they also paired this beautiful song with a video that is just as compelling.

The video is directed by THE BLOSSOM, but it also features cinematography from Ashlan Grey and edits by Henock Sileshi (BROCKHAMPTON). ‘HARDCORE HAPPY’ is a breath of fresh air, and it has elements that are reminiscent of the 90s. THE BLOSSOM, moniker of LA-based songwriter Lily Lizotte, visualizes the feeling of being stuck in life. In the video, we see the singer buried in the dirt before transitioning to a clip of them behind broken glass. We can visually see how suffocating it is being stuck in life while looking for answers to the insecurities and anxiety we deal with on a daily basis. The song and video are a perfect match and it gives an introspective look into what depression looks like. THE BLOSSOM has fully caught my attention, and we believe you should listen to them ASAP!

Lyrics That Stick:

“Yeah, you know my world is burnin'

I've been sick of all my hurtin'

Yeah, I'm tired of my gender

I spent five days on a bender”
