As someone who has taken pride in music discovery, I love to find artists that dare to be different. Although I rarely come across music that makes me genuinely feel something, I get a high when I discover artists that are cultivating the sound of tomorrow. Recently, I came across the industry’s best kept secret “saturn 17”. saturn 17 is a California-based indie-pop band consisting of Nika Fazeli and Halsey Bousquet. I would characterize their sound as nostalgic with an angsty twist. Their songs are laced with engaging guitar riffs, captivating vocals, and their lyrics cut deep while also being relatable. Although I’m new to the band, they took my breath away with their latest single “Magazine”.
“Magazine” is an uptempo record that came from a number of inspirations. The single is direct, and it’s full of energy that’ll make you want to rage in a mosh-pit. Like many of their songs, “Magazine” is derived from their personal experiences, heartaches, triumphs, and tears. They touch on their love for certain male rock/pop bands, discuss “stan culture” from a queer perspective, and share their desire to present themselves as rock stars. On the first listen, I knew I had found a hidden gem. saturn 17 are the future so stream their single below!
