Skizzy Mars - Pro Bad Decision Maker

In the late stages of the music blog era and Tumblr, there was a paradigm shift within Hip-Hop music. We saw mainstream Hip-Hop break off into multiple sub-genres that would later expand the format for the musical landscape we see today. Although we had our favorites on the mainstream side, we saw multiple underground artists such as Logic, G-Eazy, and A$AP Rocky emerge from the blog era. One artist that impacted me during this era was Skizzy Mars. The New York kingmaker was a voice for the youth, and his genre-bending production only proved that his music was for everyone. His music was raw, and he gave a feeling of freedom to kids that felt like degenerates. After a few hiatus’ here & there, the Harlem born rapper is back with his new offering ‘Pro Bad Decision Maker’.
In my opinion, this song feels like old Skizzy mixed with a more mature 2021 version of himself. The song is down to earth, and it has that same rawness that he had in his earlier tracks. With production by Michael Keenan, Skiz raps about the typical bad decisions he has seen plague him in his relationships, but it seems like he is finally ready to accept those flaws with this record. His vocals are smooth, and the chorus is infectious enough to keep you singing even after the song is finished. Although this is his first solo track of 2021, this song has us hopeful for what he has to come later this year. Check his new single below and give it a listen!
