After a long weekend, I always think of Monday as my day to refresh and listen to the music I didn’t get around to on Friday. Although there isn’t anything like waking up to new music on Friday, I often have more time to really sit with some songs that I might have accidentally skipped at the beginning of the week. Today, I came across a single that fuses pop-punk and alt-pop into one intoxicating sound. With his new song ‘New Americana’, singer/songwriter, July, points out his drive to change the lifestyle around him.

Although it feels like there are already enough songs that talk about the need for success, July’s single has a poetic feel that makes it worth the listen. His lyricism is raw, and it evokes emotions due to the conviction that is in his voice. With the catchy guitar-driven production, July sings about wanting to become successful to keep this girl around. However, we get to see him mature within his own lyrics. After debating within his own mind about this girl, he realizes that even if he becomes more successful, this girl will never truly love him. After playing this for the tenth time in the last hour, I can firmly say that I am a fan of July and his music. He has a genuine feel to his music, and I can’t wait to see him continue to grow.

Lyrics That Stick

“Okay, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, you in love with diamonds

So I take her right on my neck, this is to make you like it”
